Hatched Musk Turtle
Earlier this year, in the fall, we dug up the nests made for the turtle eggs by previous students, in order to help the baby turtles reach the surface and travel down to the river. One of the eggs we dug up was in the process of hatching and was one of the few musk turtle eggs that we found. While I was holding the egg in my hand, the egg hatched and a teeny musk turtle was born. The musk turtle eggs are small and oblong, and the musk turtle was a little smaller than the size of a half dollar. He became a class favorite and we named him Speed.
